ESA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are pleased that you are considering applying for a Public Health Entomology For All (PHEFA) internship or fellowship. Here is some information regarding PHEFA initiative, the PHEFA internships and the PHEFA fellowship.
PHEFA was created to ensure to ensure students and early career professionals from all communities are knowledgeable about the field of Public Health Entomology, vector-borne diseases and prevention, the study of insects, and the role of professional societies in the scientific endeavor and STEM career development. We believe such knowledge will lead to a PHE workforce that is reflective of the communities it serves and greater health equity.
The PHEFA internships will take place for ten weeks during the summer beginning May 28, 2024. The internships will be in the below locathions:
- Dengue Branch of the CDC located in San Juan, Puerto Rico
- Bacterial Diseases Branch in Fort Collins, Colorado
- Rickettsial Zoonoses Branch and the Division of Parasitic Diseases and Malaria in Atlanta, GA.
All interns will receive instruction on entomology, lab work, and field work.
To be eligible for a PHEFA internship, applicants must attend or have attended a Minority Serving Institution and completed at least three quarters of their undergraduate education. There is no GPA requirement.
All submissions are due by February 15, 2024. You are able to save and edit your application prior to submitting it; however you will not be able to edit an application after you submit it. If you need to make changes after you have submitted the application, contact: awards@entsoc.org.
