Description

ESA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are pleased that you are considering applying for a Public Health Entomology For All (PHEFA) fellowship. Here is some information regarding PHEFA initiative and the PHEFA fellowship.

PHEFA was created to ensure to ensure students and early career professionals from all communities are knowledgeable about the field of Public Health Entomology, vector-borne diseases and prevention, the study of insects, and the role of professional societies in the scientific endeavor and STEM career development. We believe such knowledge will lead to a PHE workforce that is reflective of the communities it serves and greater health equity.

The PHEFA fellowships are a yearlong commitment beginning on June 1.  Fellows must be a recent graduate with an undergraduate, graduate or doctoral degree and have attended a Minority Serving Institution. The fellowships internships will be in the below locations:

  1. Dengue Branch of the CDC located in San Juan, Puerto Rico
  2. Bacterial Diseases Branch in Fort Collins, Colorado
  3. Rickettsial Zoonoses Branch and the Division of Parasitic Diseases and Malaria in Atlanta, GA.

One-Year PHEFA fellows have varying degrees of knowledge of entomology, Public Health Entomology, and the scientific inquiry in general. It is anticipated that fellows will start their PHEFA experience with varying levels of entomological expertise and interests. These questions are drafted to provide a place for applicants who are more and less experienced to identify their goals and for the Selection Committee to determine where the applicants’ needs might be met best.

All submissions are due by February 15, 2024. You are able to save and edit your application prior to submitting it; however you will not be able to edit an application after you submit it. If you need to make changes after you have submitted the application, contact: awards@entsoc.org.
